Biography

Driven by a deep passion for the beauty and beneficial powers of classical music, Mike has dedicated the last 25 years to studying and working with the world’s finest clarinetists and teachers Charles Neidich, Karl Leister, Walter Boeykens, Philippe Cuper, Willem van der Vuurst, Leo van Tool, Einar Johannesson, Ronald van Spaendonck, Ralph Manno, Marco Thomas, Anatoly Moratof and Harmen de Boer.

His musical studies led him across Italy, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Iceland where he gained a deep understanding of cultural diversity and obtained a B.Mus. in Clarinet Performance at the Iceland Academy of Arts in Reykjavik and a Master of Composition at the Conservatorium Maastricht in the Netherlands. On his journey he explored the broad variety of clarinet styles and schools and incorporates this flexibility and understanding in his playing and teaching.

During his studies Mike received the Talented Youth Scholarship in Amsterdam for exceptional musicianship and was the proud winner of the International Youth Competition in Moscow.

He proved his versatility and high standard as a professional concert clarinetist in worldwide music projects and music recordings under Jan Ezendam and André Rieu as well as in solo and chamber music projects. During his time in Ireland Mike taught and performed at the “Summer Music on the Shannon” Festival and recorded music for RTE film productions.

Mike taught at the International Charisma Music Academy in Sydney, Australia, where several of his students subsequently received scholarships for sought after private schools.
